University Hospitals presented its 12th annual Miracles Happen, a benefit for advanced Cancer Research, presented at the Shaker Heights Country Club.
More than 300 guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres with background music by Kyle Prious. Later, dinner was presented by featured chefs Zack Bruell and Chris Wolf of the Shaker Heights Country Club. Guests enjoyed food stations including a complete raw bar and sushi bar, among other delicacies. Also providing music that evening was the K Street Band.
Beautiful centerpieces filled with red and pink roses and hydrangea were created by Orban’s.
Approximately $160,000 was raised that evening. In the past decade, Miracle Fund events have collectively raised $10 million to help fund clinical research and treatment options for advanced stage breast cancer at UH Seidman Cancer Center.
The evening also featured a silent auction, vacation raffle and Miracle Tree.
Providing the welcome and introduction that evening was Dr. Theodoros Teknos, president and scientific director at UH Seidman Cancer Center and giving a UH Miracle Fund update was Dr. Paula Silverman, director of the breast cancer program.
Welcome remarks were given by Ned Hyland and Sean Hennessy, and the Champion Award was presented to the Mary and Jim Conway Family.
Miracles Happen was chaired by Mary Patton, Mary McKenna and Bridget Vaughn and honorary chairs were Sean Hennessy and Ned Hyland. The Miracle Funds helps to fund clinical research and treatment options for advanced stage breast cancer at UH Seidman Cancer Center.
The fund was created in honor of Diana Hyland, who lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer in 2008. Both she and Becky Hennessy displayed tremendous courage in their battles. Funds raised that evening will directly impact clinical research and patient care. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY SUE REID
