The Musical Theater Project held their “Rendezous Come to the Cabaret” event with esteemed cabaret singer Steve Ross at the Kirtland Country Club. Guests arrived to the clubhouse and mingled in sun-drenched rooms overlooking the stately golf course during the cocktail hour. At dinner, guests were directed into the dining room where the large black grand piano sat in wait for the evening’s entertainment. For dinner, attendees enjoyed chicken picatta with herbed rice and asparagus or stuffed portobello for the vegetarians in the crowd. Dessert arrived on trays filled with macarons and small pastries to be chosen from.
Rendezvous was held as a benefit for the Musical Theater Project’s Arts Education Programming including Kids Love Musicals! And The Song is You!
Kids Love Musicals! is the school program done by TMTP where they bring the characters and music to school children all throughout NE Ohio, with a focus on musicals that have stood the test of time and are more than 20 years old.
After dessert was finished, and a few brief speeches, Steve Ross entered the dining room and sat at the piano. A hush descended as he began to play and his unmistakable voice rang out with “Heaven in My Arms” (Kern-Hammerstein) and went straight into “Isn’t It Romantic?” (Rodgers-Hart). The intimate setting paired with Steve Ross’s talent as a cabaret performer made for an unforgettable evening. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY ALANA CLARK
